TRADITION. Sigma Nu is JMU's longest running and largest fraternity. This means that the chapter has never lost its charter and has remained recognized by the university and our national headquarters since we first started the colonization process at JMU in 1972. With nearly 900 collegiate and alumni brothers, there is an extensive network of men dedicated to the same values. The chapter is not only a leading chapter on campus historically, but also currently. Sigma Nu is an elite fraternity at JMU with over 100 brothers with a competitive rush process that identifies strong candidates and future leaders. ALUMNI. The Sigma Nu experience extends beyond one's college years. Unlike a club, Sigma Nu is a lifelong commitment. As a result, a thriving network of alumni supports the Collegiate Chapter through networking, career opportunities, and advising. Alumni enjoy the benefit of having a "home" on campus after graduation, especially during special events like Homecoming.

VALUES. Sigma Nu believes in the values set forth by our founders in 1869. Those values are bound together through the ideals Love, Truth, and Honor. Sigma Nu was founded as an organization dedicated against the practice of hazing, which Sigma Nu at JMU takes seriously. Hazing is an unacceptable practice within our chapter.

LEADERSHIP. Sigma Nu is a leader in the Greek Community here at JMU. Whether it's participation in the Interfraternity Council, intramurals, organizing philanthropy and service events, leadership roles in outside organizations, or social events, Sigma Nu takes a leadership role in providing a well-rounded fraternity experience. Brothers are encouraged to join and become involved as leaders in other organizations that JMU has to offer, including athletics, the Inter-Fraternity Council, business clubs, etc.

ACADEMICS. Sigma Nu boasts one of the best GPA's of all fraternities, scoring over 3.0 each semester. Sigma Nu's GPA is not only above the fraternity average, but also well above the non-Greek student at JMU. Fraternities also score higher GPA's than their non-Greek counterparts nationally as well. Sigma Nu is committed to academic excellence and makes it the first priority for all brothers.

PHILANTHROPY. Sigma Nu believes in giving back to the local community through service and fundraising. Brothers completed activities that ranged from volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters to helping clean up local parks. Our chapter completes nearly 2,000 hours of community service each semester and raises thousands of dollars for local charities.

ATHLETICS. For those who enjoy athletic competition and want to continue playing sports in college, representing Sigma Nu in sporting events provides opportunity to compete against other fraternities and campus teams for intramural championships organized by JMU. Sigma Nu ranks high in athletic competitions.

SOCIAL. Sigma Nu provides an atmosphere to thrive socially. Whether it's on a daily basis interacting with fellow brothers, events with sororities, or the weekly social events, there is plenty of socializing to do to meet new people and make lifelong friends. Among the many chapter outings, the signature White Rose Formal celebrates the annual accomplishments of the chapter each spring.

GREEK LIFE. Along with joining a local chapter and an international fraternity, brothers also join the Greek Life community at JMU with over two dozen fraternities and sororities. Research shows that students in Greek organizations perform better academically, contribute more volunteer hours, raise more funds for charitable causes, are more successful upon graduation, and give back financially as alumni at a higher rate than non-Greeks. We believe being a member of Greek Life, particularly a brother in Sigma Nu, enhances the JMU experience and produces ethical leaders of tomorrow.
