Sigma Nu Fraternity (National)
Headquartered in Lexington, VA, Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington in 1869 by three cadets in opposition to the practice of hazing. Today, Sigma Nu currently has 166 active chapters and colonies on college campuses throughout the United States, and has initiated over 235,000 members since its founding.

Sigma Nu at James Madison University
Sigma Nu began the colonization process at then Madison College in 1972. After two years of recruitment and diligent work, the colony was officially chartered on February 24, 1974 as Sigma Nu Fraternity's 188th chapter, the Iota Delta Chapter. Sigma Nu is JMU's longest running fraternity, having never lost our charter to operate. As a preeminent fraternity at JMU for most of our existence, and through the adherence to our values, Sigma Nu has the largest brotherhood of nearly 900 collegiate and alumni brothers. Sigma Nu excels in academics, recruitment, alumni relations, sorority relations, and athletics, receiving awards from Sigma Nu Fraternity and JMU annually.
Rock Chapter Awards
Sigma Nu at JMU has been recognized as "Rock Chapter" four times in its history, which is the fraternity's most prestigious bi-annual award for select chapters across the country demonstrating excellence in all aspects of chapter operations.
